Taking accurate Measurements

The directions given here will work for measuring any doll. Here is a link to the measurement database which has measurements I personally took or were taken by someone that adhered to my strict measurement guidelines; Measurement Database. I measure each doll I can get my hands on as it is really important when sewing and/or buying fashions to have an accurate idea of what will fit and what will not. These charts are designed to help you determine if items for one doll type will fit another; Or to help you when creating patterns for dolls that you may or may not already have.

When measuring any doll for fitting purposes I use the following measurements to attain accurate results. below are a few illustrations of where to measure as well as a detailed explination of each measurement. The photos below give an idea of where the measurements are taken. The model shown here is Dollstown Estella, the position of measurements would be similar on all body types. You may click any image to see it full size.

The first thing I do when measuring anyone is to tie a pice of string tightly around the thinnest portion of the body at the natural waistline. This gives a distinct point of reference for all the other measurements.
